Frequently asked questions
When does a company need a fractional CTO instead of a full-time hire?
When you need senior technical judgment for specific decisions — architecture, vendor selection, hiring the first engineers, preparing for due diligence — but not forty hours a week of it. A fractional arrangement also works as a bridge while you recruit a permanent CTO, with the brief and interview loop designed by someone who has done the role.
Can you work with our existing engineering team?
Yes. We can act as strategic advisor, architecture reviewer, delivery coach or hands-on implementation partner. The role is agreed in writing at the start, including who makes final technical decisions, so your team's ownership is clear rather than undermined by an outside voice.
What do we receive at the end of a consulting engagement?
A written technical assessment, architecture decision records, and a prioritised roadmap with scope, budget ranges and risks for each item. You can execute it internally, hand it to another vendor, or have Octonyx support implementation, QA, integrations and deployment.
How is CTO-as-a-Service structured?
Usually as a monthly retainer with a defined number of hours, a standing meeting cadence and on-call availability for urgent decisions, or as a fixed-scope assessment for a single question such as build-versus-buy. We recommend one of the two after the first call based on how many open decisions you have.
